Distribution of Hygiene Kits in San Jose
The Hygiene Kit distribution program continues to be an important part of the San Jose location outreach to the homeless. We believe the hygiene kit distribution is important as the poor and homeless are able to pay less attention to personal hygiene and cleanliness than most people. We have distributed +2,000 kits in the past three months directly to the homeless.
Since the start of COVID, there have been over 69,000 kits distributed. The distribution of kits takes many forms including direct distribution to homeless encampments. The encampment distribution is focused on the Columbus Park area, which is the largest encampment of homeless in San Jose. Besides the standard hygiene kit, the Knights and Dames have been distributing jackets, blankets, knit gloves, sunscreen, hand wipes, pet food, sandwiches and water. As we pass out the kits, the homeless are very grateful for receiving the kits. They regularly comment that the kits make a big difference in their lives. There are a number of Auxiliary members and volunteers that join the Knights and Dames in the encampment distribution allowing us to share information with others as to the good works of the Order.
