Malta Van On The Move
in The Motor City
There’s a new car on the scene that’s turning heads in the “Motor City” — the Order of Malta Mobile Ministries van. And carrying on the proud tradition of auto innovation, the Malta van in Detroit is like no other. Sure, it delivers fresh produce, coats, boots, and meals. But it also delivers the needy to the care they need. In partnership with local charities, twice a week, the van transports up to five passengers to the Malta Dental and Medical Clinic where those in need will receive eye exams, glasses, hearing aids, dental work, even dentures — all free of charge. In addition to transporting people to the clinic, the van has been key to bringing Into the Fire Ministry, members of the Order who hand deliver sandwiches, coats, boots, and shoes to those on the street. “The van has earned the community’s trust, the homeless have come to know that we’re reaching out to serve,” said Robert Wilson, KM. Only in its first year of operation, the road ahead is full of possibilities
